Mariposa: Wings to Safety is a unique program that offers a 24/7 crisis response team, made available to victims and families affected by domestic violence. This dedicated team provides crisis intervention, patient education, and prevention programs to countless families throughout the Valley.
Patients receive resources and support via in-patient visits, weekly support groups, post-partum discharge planning classes, and they are provided helpful assistance with shelter placement and on-site orders of protection. Victims of domestic violence are able to utilize video conferencing to obtain an order of protection while still in the hospital, eliminating the need for confronting their attacker in a courtroom, a common barrier to reporting domestic violence.
Mariposa: Wings to Safety provides training to all MIHS employees on screening and recognizing domestic violence. The program’s annual budget of 190k is fully funded by the Maricopa Health Foundation.
